Weddings and Marriages

Congratulations on your decision to get married!  If we at St. Paul’s can contribute to that happiness by officiating or hosting your wedding, we’d be delighted.

At St. Paul’s United Church, we believe that a wedding is a rite of blessing for all committed, caring couples regardless of gender, religion (or no religion) or church membership. We believe God intends loving relationships to be faithful, responsible, just, healing, and sustaining for the couple and their family and friends. These relationships may be between a woman and a man, or between people of the same gender.

If you're interested in having your wedding at St. Paul’s United Church, we've provided some information to get you started in the following FAQ. Please don’t hesitate to call the church to inquire further.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a member of St. Paul’s or the United Church of Canada to get married there?

No, you don't need to be a member of St. Paul’s in order to be married here. We hope that once you experience the warmth and inclusivity of St. Paul’s, you may well feel inspired to explore our community life more deeply.

Do I have to be a Christian to be married at St. Paul’s?

No. We marry people of most faith traditions, and couples of different traditions. Your service can follow a traditional Christian order, a more contemporary style, or something of your own creation. There are some legal requirements that are a necessary part of the ceremony, but much of it is very flexible.  In planning the service, the minister will work closely with you to ensure that the service reflects your relationship and your values.

Is there a cost to be married at St. Paul’s?

Yes. You may contact our office for specifics. The cost for a wedding in our Sanctuary, seating up to 200 people, is usually $750.  A $250 deposit is required when your wedding to be booked, with the balance due 30 days prior to your wedding date.

What does that cost include?

The cost includes:

  • Use of our Sanctuary for the service, and for photography afterwards

  • Services of a St. Paul’s minister

  • Services of our Minister of Music to play organ or piano

  • Rehearsal space and time before your wedding

  • Care /custodial service

Can I get married any day of the week, or any time of the day?

You can plan your wedding for any day or time between Monday and Saturday. We do not usually hold weddings on Sundays as the sanctuary is in use for our regular Sunday services.

How many people can be seated in the church?

Our sanctuary holds 200 people comfortably, 225 with a bit of coziness. This doesn’t include the balcony, which can hold another 24 people.

Do you provide a minister?

Our ministers will be very pleased to officiate at your wedding. All our ministers are licensed by the Government of Ontario as marriage officiants.  He or she will gladly meet with you in advance to help you plan a ceremony that reflects your culture, tradition, relationship, and values.

What about a reception or party after the wedding?

The auditorium immediately below the sanctuary is available for your reception. Immediately adjacent is a well-equipped, newly refurbished kitchen.

Do you cooperate with wedding planners?

Absolutely. Have your planner give us a call.
