We're pleased to announce that we've started a refugee sponsorship under the banner of the Cliffside Refugee Committee. Our application for sponsoring a refugee has been approved, and we're looking forward to welcoming this New Canadian to our community. He is a refugee from Cambia, fleeing that country's oppressive laws for LGBT persons, which can mean harrassment, imprisonment, or even death. We're not sure when exactly to expect him, but we're in the process of preparing for his arrival, collecting stuff for a small apartment, funds to cover basic living expenses, and volunteers from the community to help us help him adapt to life in Canada.
