Laughing with Jesus

A parishioner asked me about two weeks ago, as we were reflecting on Lent and the coming Good Friday service, that the Bible never speaks of Jesus laughing. It prompted me to think of this image drawn by Willis Wheatley for the United Church back in the 1970s. It was slightly scandalous at the time, but has become one of hte most cherished modern images of Jesus. What does it provoke in us, especially as we reflect on the events of a few days ago (the crucifixion and the resurrection) and the events of today (war clouds looming and the growing intolerance across the globe for 'the other.'). Join us on Sunday for a talk-back discussion on this, and other 'big questions.' 10:30.
